Marissa Marie Carstensen, a bright and cherished young girl of just 12 years, tragically passed away on April 7, 2026, in her hometown of Elkhorn. Her loss has deeply affected her family, friends, and the community, leaving a void that will be felt for years to come.
Marissa was known for her infectious smile, kind heart, and vibrant spirit. She brought joy to everyone around her and was loved dearly by her family and friends. Her life was a testament to innocence and warmth, and her passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kevin Carstensen; her grandpa, Roger Britten; her grandparents, Deb and Steve Uarich; and her beloved aunt, Bootsie. Despite these significant losses, Marissa’s memory continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her.
Marissa is survived by her loving mother, Jenna (Dane) Uarich; her sisters, Leah Carstensen and Berkly Uarich; her grandparents, Jim and Joan Carstensen of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Pam Britten of Elkhorn. She is also mourned by her uncles, Brian (Amanda) Britten and their children Abigail and Allison, Chad (Lisa) Carstensen and their children Emily, Henry, and Myles, and Craig (Becca) Carstensen along with their children Breckyn, Casen, and Kyler. Her circle of friends, who were like family to her—Lily, Annabelle, Kinley, and Elise—held a special place in her heart. She was also a beloved companion to her dog, Teddy, who brought her comfort and joy.
A celebration of Marissa’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th, at the Relevant Center in Elkhorn. Attendees are invited to arrive an hour early for visitation. Following the service, her remains will be inurned at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to them for later designation. To honor Marissa’s joyful spirit, the family invites everyone attending to wear a shade of blue, symbolizing her vibrant personality.
Marissa’s passing leaves a profound void, but her loving spirit and the memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
